Holy Crap – JD Salinger dies at age 91

I just learned a moment ago that J.D. Salinger passed away at age 91.  My initial shock is supplanted by the thought that there will never be another word to come from the enigmatic author of “Catcher in the Rye” and “Franny and Zoe.”  The first time I read Catcher in the Rye, the character Holden Caulfield, seemed to be like an inner character of mine – as if his words were like voices in my head that I dared not express.  After reading Catcher again as an adult, I found a new appreciation of Salinger and tried to discover more about him.  It was as if Salinger was a ghost – and I wasn’t the only one desiring to know more.  I suppose he is one type of model for novelists – write your books and keep your mouth shut.  Anyhow, rest in peace great Master of language – you will be missed.
